Lighthouses are erected on unused plains and increase the range of sight. The higher the level of the building the higher is the range of sight. At strategically important points this allows to keep an eye on your borders.
If a lighthouse is sabotaged, its range of sight is 2 fields during the sabotage, like all other fields.

The cancellation of construction orders is possible at any time. 90 % of the paid ressources are returned.
Hints by experienced players:
It isn't sensible to amass a big number of lighthouses. They do provide a nice overview, but they do not produce any ressources. So the construction of a lighthouse should be well planned. Ideal places are coast regions or border regions that can't be observed otherwise. Such points of interest are best found by exploring a small part of the sea with ships and spies, for example.
